Stepfather Arrested for Hitting Son with Plastic Chair

A stepfather was arrested after hitting his 8-year-old stepson with a plastic chair, causing injuries. The incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on May 7, 2026, inside their home in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

Suspect Identified

The suspect, alias Naldo, 42, a construction worker, is now detained at the Guadalupe Police Station. According to initial investigation, Naldo was arrested by barangay tanods after the victim's sibling sought help upon witnessing the assault. The tanods turned over the suspect to the police.

It was reported that Naldo hit his stepson with a plastic chair, striking the child's head, legs, and arms. The victim sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Suspect Admits Guilt

During questioning, Naldo admitted to the offense, saying he was overcome by anger. He claimed that his stepson had cut a sack of rice, spilling its contents on the floor. Naldo said he lost his temper because rice is very expensive nowadays.

However, he insisted that he did not hit the child hard and believed the victim was not seriously injured. Despite this, the victim's older sibling did not hesitate to have Naldo imprisoned.

Legal Consequences

The suspect may face charges for violating Republic Act 7610, which provides for the protection of children against abuse, exploitation, and discrimination.
