In a proactive move to safeguard public safety during the Holy Week festivities, Cebu City Police Director, Police Colonel George Ylanan, alongside Mayor Nestor Archival, conducted thorough inspections at key ports and bus terminals across the city. This initiative aims to ensure smooth and secure travel for passengers as many return to their home provinces for Semana Santa celebrations.
Comprehensive Security Checks at Major Transit Points
The inspection team, led by Colonel Ylanan and Mayor Archival, visited Pier 1 and Pier 2, as well as the North and Cebu South Bus Terminals. Their primary focus was to verify that police personnel stationed at these locations are diligently performing their duties in maintaining public order and safety. Beyond the terminals, the review extended to officers deployed on city streets as part of the police visibility program, reinforcing a widespread security presence.
Heightened Alert Status for Religious Events
Colonel Ylanan issued directives for all police officers to remain vigilant and ready to assist passengers in need. He confirmed that a high alert status and stringent security measures will continue, particularly in areas hosting religious activities for Good Friday on April 3, 2026. Identified priority sites include the Celestial Garden in Banawa, Barangay Guadalupe, which is expected to attract large crowds of Catholic devotees.
This coordinated effort underscores the city's commitment to preventing incidents and ensuring a peaceful Holy Week for residents and visitors alike. Authorities emphasize the importance of public cooperation in reporting any suspicious activities to enhance overall safety during this busy period.
