Consolacion Municipal Police Station successfully rescued a 38-year-old man who was held hostage by his 44-year-old older brother on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 8:24 AM in Purok 1 Zinia, Sitio Sun-ok, Barangay Tayud, Consolacion town.
Victim and Suspect Identified
The rescued victim was identified as alias Ricky, while the suspect is his older brother alias Marlon. Both reside in the same area. Police received a telephone call regarding the ongoing hostage situation and immediately responded.
Police Response and Shooting
Upon arrival, officers saw the suspect brandishing a firearm. Police ordered him to drop his weapon, but he refused and instead fired shots. In response, an officer shot Marlon in the leg, causing him to fall and release his weapon. Both the victim and the suspect were quickly taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
Evidence and Motive
A .22-caliber revolver was recovered at the crime scene and is now in the custody of the Consolacion Police Station for ballistic examination. According to Lt. Col. John Kareen Escober, chief of the Consolacion Municipal Police Station, the motive was a sibling quarrel, although the exact cause of the argument remains unknown.
Suspect's Background
The suspect is known to have family problems and is a user of illegal drugs. Witnesses reported that before police arrived, Marlon had fired his weapon multiple times. Relatives added that Marlon chased his younger brother Ricky and then shot him.

Police Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., chief of the Cebu Police Provincial Office, praised his personnel for their swift resolution of the hostage situation. “The professionalism and courage demonstrated by our responding personnel prevented the situation from escalating further and ensured the immediate rescue of the victim. The Cebu Police Provincial Office remains committed to responding swiftly to threats against public safety while upholding the rule of law and protecting the lives of our communities,” Mangelen said.
Current Status
The suspect is now under hospital arrest while police continue their investigation.
