Senator Lacson Comments on Dela Rosa's Extended Absence: 'He's Truly Invisible'
In a recent interview, Senator Panfilo Lacson addressed the ongoing absence of Senator Ronald Dela Rosa from the Senate, highlighting a lack of communication that has persisted for over three months. Lacson described Dela Rosa as seemingly 'invisible' during this period, with no direct contact established between the senator and his colleagues or the Senate leadership.
Communication Limited to Family and Staff
According to Lacson, the Senate has only been able to communicate with one of Dela Rosa's children and some of his staff members, who continue to work diligently in his office. These individuals have reportedly acknowledged that they, too, have not had any recent interactions with the senator himself. Despite his absence, Dela Rosa has not sent any messages indicating his desire to return to Senate duties, leaving his status unclear.
Senate Leadership Maintains Office Operations
On the other hand, the Senate leadership has assured that there is no reason to close Dela Rosa's office or withhold salaries from his staff, even though he has not been attending sessions or participating in Senate activities. Lacson emphasized that this arrangement will remain in place as long as Dela Rosa continues to serve as a senator, ensuring that his constituents and office functions are not disrupted.
The situation raises questions about the responsibilities and visibility of elected officials, with Lacson's remarks underscoring the unusual nature of Dela Rosa's prolonged absence. As the Senate moves forward, the focus remains on maintaining operational integrity while awaiting further developments from the senator's camp.
