Motorcyclist dies in Minglanilla after veering into oncoming lane

A 32-year-old motorcyclist died and his passenger was injured after they collided with a wing van on the National Highway in Barangay Poblacion, Minglanilla, Cebu, early Saturday morning, June 27, 2026.

Victim identified, passenger injured

The fatality was identified as Vince Henry Donilo Saso, a resident of Barangay Turan, Naga City. He sustained severe head injuries that led to his instantaneous death. His passenger, alias Joy, 37, from Barangay Pardo, Cebu City, was rushed to Minglanilla District Hospital and is now in stable condition.

How the accident happened

According to the Minglanilla Police investigation, the wing van was heading north, driven by Jason Aliganga Fernandez, 43, while the motorcycle was traveling south. Based on Joy's statement, Saso fell asleep while driving, causing the motorcycle to veer into the opposite lane.

Despite the wing van driver swerving to the right to avoid the collision, the motorcycle was hit and run over by the vehicle's wheel.

Legal action taken

Fernandez is currently detained at the Minglanilla Police Station and faces charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide, Physical Injury, and Damage to Property.
