NBI Cebu District Office Cracks Down on Illegal Dental Operation, Apprehends Four Individuals
In a significant enforcement action, the National Bureau of Investigation Cebu District Office (NBI Cebdo) has successfully dismantled an unlicensed dental laboratory, leading to the arrest of four men. The raid, conducted on April 20, 2026, in Barangay T. Padilla, targeted a facility allegedly operating without proper accreditation and supervision from a licensed dentist, posing serious public health risks.
Details of the Arrest and Raid
During the operation, NBI agents apprehended Ronie Ray Camolista Aniñon, along with his assistants Lhordlyndhon Ambus Quiñones, Paul Jason Fortuna Bergamo, and Vince Sian Joseph Ambus Quinones. All four suspects are residents of Sitio Eagles within the same barangay. Authorities seized numerous dentures and several dental machines as evidence, which were allegedly used in the illegal practice.
Background of the Illegal Operation
Investigators revealed that the laboratory had been functioning for an extended period without accreditation from the Philippine Dental Association and lacked oversight by a qualified dentist. According to reports, the venture into freelance orthodontia began after one of the suspects, who had prior experience as an assistant for a licensed dental technologist, decided to establish his own dental service without obtaining the necessary permits.
The group's activities reportedly included a range of dental procedures, such as fabricating dentures, installing braces, and performing teeth whitening, all conducted without the proper credentials. This unauthorized practice not only violated regulatory standards but also endangered patients' health due to potential malpractice and unsanitary conditions.
Legal Consequences and Public Warning
The suspects may face charges for violating Republic Act 9484, commonly known as the Dental Act of 2007. If convicted, they could be subject to fines ranging from P200,000 to P500,000 or imprisonment for two to five years. Officials emphasized the importance of seeking professional dental care, warning that while licensed services might be costly, opting for unlicensed practitioners can lead to severe health complications and legal issues.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal medical practices and protect public safety. The NBI Cebdo continues to urge citizens to verify the credentials of healthcare providers and report suspicious activities to prevent similar incidents in the future.
