Santisima faces ex-champ Oguni in Tokyo on Aug. 16

Alex Santisima Jr. is set to face the most formidable opponent of his career when he takes on Japanese veteran and former world champion Yukinori Oguni in a 10-round bout scheduled for August 16, 2026, at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

Santisima's recent momentum

The 26-year-old Santisima enters the contest riding high after a breakthrough victory in Japan last month, where he secured his first knockout win by stopping veteran Richard Pumicpic. This upcoming fight will mark his third appearance on Japanese soil; he previously lost his Japan debut to Subaru Murata. Santisima also holds wins over former ALA Gym standout Jess Rhey Waminal and Justine Darap.

Oguni's championship pedigree

Oguni, a former world champion, captured the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-bantamweight title in 2016 with a unanimous decision victory over Jonathan Guzman in Japan. However, his reign was brief, as he lost the belt to Ryosuke Iwasa via sixth-round technical knockout in his first title defense the following year.

After a roller-coaster period over subsequent years, Oguni revitalized his career with a major win in 2025, defeating rising Thai contender Chainoi Worawut by unanimous decision. He followed that with another impressive unanimous decision victory over former unified world champion Marlon Tapales on April 3, 2026, in Japan.

Rankings and records

Oguni is currently ranked No. 6 by the World Boxing Organization, No. 11 by the World Boxing Association, No. 13 by the World Boxing Council, and No. 14 by the IBF. Santisima boasts an impressive 13-2 record with seven knockouts, while Oguni holds a record of 24-4-3 with nine knockouts.
