The Davao Tourism Association (Data) has issued a fresh rallying cry to its members, urging a united effort to elevate the entire Davao Region's profile on both domestic and international stages.
A Call to Showcase Davao's Diversity
During its annual membership meeting and Christmas party at the Ritz Hotel in Obrero, Davao City, Data President Nicole Hao Bian-Ledesma challenged industry stakeholders. She emphasized the need to promote the region's vast array of attractions beyond the city limits. Bian-Ledesma highlighted Davao's unique selling points, ranging from its majestic highlands and pristine coastal cities to its distinctive local products and renowned Filipino hospitality.
She stressed that the collective mission is to position Davao not just as a destination for Filipinos but as a must-visit locale for global travelers seeking diverse experiences.
Davao Tourist Passport Hits Major Milestone
A key update shared at the gathering concerned the innovative Davao Tourist Passport initiative. Bian-Ledesma reported that the digital passport had attracted over 1.8 million viewers as of November 2025, signaling strong public interest.
Marissa Tionko, Head of Data's Membership Committee, clarified the passport's nature and purpose. It is not an official government document but a private-sector-led program designed to rejuvenate the local tourism economy. The initiative aims to support businesses by driving visitor engagement and increasing customer traffic across participating establishments, which include recreational spots and service providers.
Strengthening the Tourism Network
The event also served as a platform to expand Data's influential network. Three new industry groups were formally inducted into the association, bringing fresh energy and services to the fold:
- RNC Travel and Tours Service
- TLC Cleaning Services
- Philippine Airlines
Beyond official business, the meeting fostered camaraderie among members through fun games, surprises, and a gift exchange, reinforcing the collaborative spirit essential for the sector's growth.
Founded in 1974, Data stands as one of the Philippines' oldest and most active private tourism organizations. For nearly five decades, it has been instrumental in shaping the hospitality and tourism landscape of the Davao Region, and this latest meeting underscores its continued vital role in driving the industry forward.
