Cebu Police Monitor Minimal Infrastructure Impact During Persistent Rainfall
The Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) has reported that no significant damage to infrastructure has been recorded across the province, despite the continuous and unrelenting rainfall experienced since Monday night through Tuesday, February 9-10, 2026. This assessment comes as authorities remain vigilant in monitoring weather-related risks in vulnerable areas.
Landslide Incident in Tabuelan City Prompts Swift Police Action
Based on monitoring by Police Colonel Abubakar Mangelen Jr., the chief of CPPO, a single landslide incident was logged by his office at 7:00 in the morning in Sitio Kantakutan, Barangay Bongon, Tabuelan City. The soil erosion directly affected a roadway, rendering it impassable for all types of vehicles and disrupting local traffic flow.
Police personnel in Tabuelan City responded promptly under the leadership of their chief to assess the situation on the ground. Colonel Mangelen emphasized that coordination has already been initiated with the Provincial Government of Cebu to facilitate immediate road clearing operations. The goal is to restore normal traffic conditions as quickly as possible to minimize inconvenience for residents and commuters.
Ongoing Surveillance and Precautionary Measures in High-Risk Zones
The CPPO continues its comprehensive monitoring efforts throughout the entire province, with particular focus on locations prone to flooding and landslides. In a statement, Colonel Mangelen explained, "What we are doing is to make sure to control the movement of vehicles and persons in these areas. In that way, should there be any landslide, we could mitigate any injuries or damage to property." This proactive approach aims to enhance public safety during adverse weather conditions.
Furthermore, the official confirmed that no landslides have been reported along the Transcentral Highway in Balamban and in Manipis, Talisay City. However, he issued a stern warning that these routes remain hazardous for motorists due to the ongoing rainfall, urging caution and reduced travel unless necessary.
Heightened Alert and Preparedness Across Cebu Province
Currently, police forces throughout the province are on heightened alert status. Search and Rescue (SAR) teams have been activated, and all necessary equipment is being prepared in case the heavy rainfall persists. This state of readiness ensures that emergency responses can be deployed swiftly if the situation deteriorates.
Colonel Mangelen has also directed all station commanders to maintain close coordination with their respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs). This collaboration is crucial for facilitating rapid rescue operations should the need arise, underscoring a unified effort to protect communities and infrastructure.
