Mandatory Evacuation in Borbon as Typhoon Uwan Approaches

Authorities in the municipality of Borbon, Cebu, have issued a mandatory and immediate evacuation order for all residents living in areas identified as high-risk for landslides and other storm-related dangers. This urgent directive was announced on November 8, 2025, as the community braces for the impact of Typhoon Uwan, which is forecasted to bring intense rainfall and powerful winds.

Executive Order Prioritizes Resident Safety

Through an Executive Order released by Mayor Nico Dotillos, the local government is taking a proactive stance to prevent loss of life. The order explicitly commands residents in vulnerable zones to leave their homes and proceed to designated evacuation centers without delay. Mayor Dotillos emphasized that the persistent heavy rains expected from the typhoon could trigger landslides and flash floods, posing a severe threat to communities.

The official order states, “All residents living in identified high-risk areas are hereby ordered to evacuate immediately to designated evacuation centers for their safety.” This measure is effective immediately and will remain in force until the typhoon threat has passed and authorities declare it safe for residents to return to their homes.

Multi-Agency Effort for Enforcement and Awareness

To ensure the evacuation is carried out smoothly and efficiently, a coordinated effort has been mobilized. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) have been directed to enforce the evacuation order. They are tasked with assisting residents, particularly in securing their relocation to the safe centers.

Furthermore, the municipal government has called upon local media outlets and barangay officials to use all available communication channels to disseminate the evacuation order widely. This comprehensive approach aims to leave no resident uninformed about the critical situation and the necessary steps for their protection.

Mayor Dotillos is urging the public to comply fully with the evacuation directive to avoid potential injuries or loss of life during the typhoon. Residents are strongly advised to stay vigilant and monitor for ongoing updates and announcements from the MDRRMO and other local authorities.
