Shear Line Causes Landslide in Cebu City, Heavy Rains Continue
A landslide triggered by persistent heavy rains impacted Sitio Lukana in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, resulting in damage to a residential property. The incident underscores the severe weather conditions affecting the region.
Pagasa Issues Heavy Rainfall Warning for Cebu
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), residents in Cebu are experiencing ongoing heavy precipitation due to a shear line weather system. This convergence of cold air from the northeast monsoon and warm air from the Pacific Ocean has prompted warnings of potential flooding and landslides across parts of the province.
Jhomer Eclarino, chief weather forecasting specialist at Pagasa-Visayas, stated that strong to heavy rainfall is expected to persist in Cebu until Tuesday evening, February 10, 2026. "Here in Cebu, we still have strong rains that may last until tonight," Eclarino said in Cebuano. "We are under a heavy rainfall warning, so flooding and landslides are expected."
Social Media Reports Confirm Weather Risks
Reports of flooded areas and landslides have already emerged on social media platforms, which Eclarino noted confirm the risks associated with the current weather conditions. These incidents highlight the immediate dangers posed by the shear line, which is primarily affecting the Visayas region.
As of 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, no low-pressure area is being monitored by Pagasa. The weather bureau forecasts that conditions in Cebu will begin to improve starting Wednesday, February 11, with further enhancements expected throughout the weekend.
Authorities Urge Vigilance and Coordination
Eclarino emphasized the importance of residents remaining vigilant during this period. He advised close coordination with local government units and disaster risk reduction offices to implement precautionary measures and consider possible preemptive evacuations if necessary.
The ongoing situation serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of communities to extreme weather events and the critical role of timely warnings and preparedness efforts in mitigating risks.
