Lugus Municipality Launches BPAT Training in Arnis and Aikido to Fortify Community Security
The Municipality of Lugus in Sulu has initiated a comprehensive training program for members of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT), focusing on the martial arts of Arnis and Aikido. This initiative represents a pivotal advancement in bolstering local security measures and enhancing community resilience.
Training Details and Collaborative Efforts
A total of 65 BPAT members from seven out of the 17 villages in Lugus are actively participating in the BPAT Responders Training Class 09-2026, which commenced on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. The opening ceremony was conducted at the headquarters of the 104th Infantry Battalion's Bravo Company in Bas Lugus village. This training is a joint endeavor involving the 104th Infantry Battalion, the Lugus Municipal Police Station under the leadership of Police Captain Yadzers Sabdani, and the municipal government of Lugus, with oversight from the 1102nd Infantry Brigade.
Objectives and Strategic Importance
The primary goal of this training is to equip community-based responders with essential skills, enabling them to act as force multipliers in maintaining peace and order. Participants will be trained to respond effectively to emergencies and support the efforts of law enforcement and security forces. This program underscores the critical role of BPAT members as the eyes and ears of their communities, providing timely information on security concerns and serving as first responders during disasters, accidents, and other critical situations.

In a message of support, Lugus Mayor Almedzar Hajiri expressed deep appreciation for the collaborative efforts of village officials, the religious sector, the academe, and security forces. He highlighted that sustained dialogue and cooperation are fundamental to the successful implementation of peace and security initiatives. Mayor Hajiri also commended the 104th Infantry Battalion for its unwavering commitment to community engagement.
Echoing this sentiment, Lieutenant Colonel Roy Dalumpines, commander of the 104th Infantry Battalion, praised the collective efforts of all stakeholders. He emphasized that choosing peace is a cornerstone for development and long-term stability, reinforcing the importance of such training programs in fostering a secure and prosperous community environment.
