Comelec Renews Urgent Call for Barmm Voter Registration Ahead of 2026 Elections

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued a renewed and urgent appeal to residents of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) to participate in the ongoing voter registration process for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). In a television interview on Sunday, February 22, 2026, Comelec Spokesman John Rex Laudiangco emphasized the critical importance of registration for all eligible individuals in the region.

Registration Services Open for Various Applicants

Laudiangco detailed that the registration activities are comprehensively open for new applicants as well as those requiring other essential registration services. He specifically addressed residents who have relocated, those whose voter status has been deactivated, and individuals needing to update incorrect data from previous registrations. "Now is the right time to ensure your participation in the democratic process," Laudiangco stated, encouraging widespread engagement across Barmm.

Registration Timeline and Legal Background

The voter registration period in the Bangsamoro region officially commenced on February 9, 2026, and is scheduled to continue until March 31, 2026. This electoral event was originally set for 2025 but was rescheduled following the enactment of Republic Act 12232, which adjusted the timeline to better align with administrative and logistical preparations.
