Four Chinese Nationals Apprehended in Zamboanga for Immigration and Documentation Offenses
In a significant law enforcement operation, authorities in the Zamboanga Peninsula have arrested four Chinese nationals for serious violations of Philippine immigration and public documentation laws. The military confirmed the arrests on Saturday, April 18, 2026, following coordinated efforts across multiple agencies.
Details of the Arrested Individuals
The 1st Infantry Division identified the detained foreigners as:
- Lin Wenyu (alias Anson Lais Lim), 52-year-old male
- Lin Weidong, 57-year-old male
- Xie Meiya, 54-year-old female
- Qiu Meiyu, 41-year-old female
All four individuals were born in Fujian province, a mountainous coastal region in southeastern China. Their arrests occurred during separate operations conducted by joint task forces in the Zamboanga area.
First Arrest: Hardware Store Operation
Lin Wenyu was apprehended around 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, April 16, at a hardware store in Lower Taway village, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. The operation involved personnel from the Bureau of Immigration, military units, and local police.
Investigators discovered that Wenyu had falsely claimed Philippine citizenship to obtain government-issued identification cards and corporate documents. This constitutes violations of both the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940 and the Revised Penal Code provisions regarding falsification.
During the arrest, authorities also confiscated illegally smuggled goods, including exotic animals. Wenyu was subsequently transferred to the Ipil Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and legal processing.
Second Operation: Commercial Establishment Raid
The remaining three suspects—Lin Weidong, Xie Meiya, and Qiu Meiyu—were arrested around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, at a commercial establishment along Governor Camins Avenue in Camino Nuevo village, Zamboanga City.
These individuals were found to have committed similar immigration and public documentation violations. Military officials determined they posed risks to public interest, national security, and public order, making them liable for classification as undesirable aliens under Philippine law.
Military Leadership Commends Coordinated Efforts
Major General Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr., commander of the 1st Infantry Division, expressed full support for the operations and praised the seamless coordination among multiple agencies. "These decisive actions reflect the Armed Forces of the Philippines' unwavering resolve to safeguard national security, preserve public order, and ensure that the rule of law is upheld across the Zamboanga Peninsula," Barroquillo stated.
The general emphasized that the Bureau of Immigration, police forces, partner agencies, and the Joint Task Force-Zampelan remain united in their mission to hold foreign nationals engaged in illegal activities fully accountable under Philippine law.
"These successive operations further demonstrate the AFP's firm commitment to protecting the Filipino people and defending the integrity of the nation's immigration system," Barroquillo added in his official statement.
The arrests highlight ongoing efforts by Philippine authorities to enforce immigration laws and maintain border security in the southern region of the country. All four Chinese nationals now face legal proceedings for their alleged violations of Philippine statutes.
