Anti-Political Dynasty and Fake News Legislation Lead 21 Priority Measures

The administration has reignited efforts to advance the controversial Anti-Political Dynasty Act and reforms to the Party-list system, following their inclusion in this year's list of priority legislative measures. According to a report from the Department of Economy, Planning and Development (DEPDev), these political reforms are among the 21 proposals approved by the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC).

Key Legislative Initiatives

Beyond the political system changes, the need to pass the Anti-Fake News and Digital Disinformation Act has been emphasized. This law aims to penalize individuals behind the spread of malicious and false information, which is considered a threat to national security.

Meanwhile, travelers have received positive news with the proposed abolition of the travel tax. Also included in the agreed-upon list is the postponement of the first Parliamentary Elections in BARMM.

Protection for Youth

The priority measures also encompass amendments to laws protecting youth, specifically the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSEAC) Act and the Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act. According to DEPDev, these steps are crucial to restoring public trust and supporting the policies of the current administration.

The comprehensive list of 21 measures underscores a multifaceted approach to governance, addressing political integrity, digital safety, economic relief for travelers, and child protection. These initiatives are poised to shape legislative agendas and public discourse in the coming months, reflecting the administration's commitment to systemic reforms and national security.
