DSWD Cracks Down on Fraudulent Aid Claims Using Counterfeit Documents

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has issued a stern public warning against individuals attempting to exploit government assistance programs by submitting falsified identification cards and other fraudulent documents. This alert specifically targets the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) initiative, a key support mechanism for Filipinos in need.

Official Statement Highlights Legal Consequences

In a recent statement released on Saturday, DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao emphasized the gravity of such actions. "We strictly remind the public not to use fake identification cards or any falsified documents merely to obtain aid from the DSWD or any government agency. This is strictly prohibited and carries corresponding liabilities under our Revised Penal Code," Dumlao declared. The warning underscores the department's commitment to ensuring that aid reaches legitimate beneficiaries while upholding the integrity of its programs.

Incident Triggers Heightened Vigilance

The advisory was prompted by a specific incident on February 11, where a social worker from the DSWD-National Capital Region (NCR) field office detected a male client attempting to secure medical assistance under the AICS program. During the interview process, the client presented a counterfeit Person with Disability (PWD) ID card, but his responses failed to align with the documentation he provided.

"While interviewing the said client, he admitted to our social worker that his documents were fake, prompting the DSWD FO NCR to immediately report him to the Barbosa Police Station for blotter documentation," Dumlao added. This swift action demonstrates the agency's proactive stance in addressing fraud and collaborating with law enforcement to hold perpetrators accountable.

Broader Implications for Public Accountability

Dumlao further cautioned that anyone found exploiting government aid programs will face legal consequences. The DSWD's move aims to deter similar fraudulent activities and protect public funds from misuse. As the department intensifies its monitoring efforts, beneficiaries are urged to comply with application requirements honestly to avoid severe penalties.
