Pampanga Police Issue Urgent Warning on Counterfeit and Expired Medicines

The Pampanga Police Provincial Office (PPO) has issued a critical public alert, strongly cautioning against the manufacture, distribution, and sale of counterfeit, altered, and expired medicines. This warning underscores the severe health dangers and strict legal repercussions associated with these illegal pharmaceutical activities.

Serious Health Risks and Legal Consequences

Colonel Eugene M. Marcelo, director of the Pampanga PPO, emphasized that these illicit products pose significant health threats, including harmful side effects, ineffective treatment, and potentially life-threatening conditions. He noted that such risks are particularly acute when medicines are sourced from unauthorized sellers, online platforms, and unlicensed establishments.

Authorities have cited violations under Republic Act No. 9711 and Republic Act No. 8203, which impose harsh penalties. These include imprisonment ranging from five years to life, fines between ?100,000 and ?10 million, revocation of licenses, and closure of establishments involved in illegal pharmaceutical operations.

To safeguard public health, the police urge the community to:

  • Purchase medicines exclusively from licensed pharmacies.
  • Carefully check product labels and expiration dates before use.
  • Avoid suspicious sources, especially unverified online sellers.
  • Report any illegal activities to authorities promptly.

The provincial police stressed that vigilance and cooperation from the public are essential in combating this issue and protecting community well-being.
