In a significant blow to illegal drug trafficking, law enforcement officers in Zamboanga City have successfully arrested three high-value individuals and seized an estimated P47.6 million worth of prohibited substances. The meticulously planned anti-drug operation unfolded on Friday, April 17, along the bustling Maria Clara Lorenzo Lobregat highway in Zone 5, Divisoria village.
Details of the Arrested Suspects
Police Colonel Fidel Fortaleza Jr., the director of the Zamboanga City Police Office, officially identified the apprehended suspects through their known aliases. The individuals taken into custody include Nurdimar, aged 43, and Indah, a 32-year-old woman, both hailing from Jolo, Sulu. The third suspect, Utoh, 47, is a resident of Sta. Catalina village within Zamboanga City itself.
Operation Execution and Seized Evidence
The arrests occurred during a carefully orchestrated buy-bust operation that commenced at approximately 5:35 p.m. Undercover police personnel, posing as potential buyers, engaged the suspects in a transaction that led to their immediate capture. Authorities confiscated a substantial haul of evidence from the suspects, including around seven kilograms of suspected shabu, which carries a staggering street value of P47.6 million.
Additional items recovered from the scene comprise a bundle of boodle money, cleverly topped with two genuine P500 marked bills used in the operation, two bags, and a pick-up truck believed to be involved in the illicit activities. All three suspects are currently detained at the Zamboanga City Police Station 4, where they await the formal filing of appropriate criminal charges.
Commendation for Successful Anti-Drug Efforts
Colonel Fortaleza publicly praised the operatives involved for their diligence and effectiveness in executing this high-stakes operation. He emphasized that this successful mission not only led to the arrest of key figures in the local drug trade but also resulted in the confiscation of a significant volume of dangerous narcotics, thereby disrupting distribution networks and enhancing community safety.
This operation underscores the ongoing commitment of Zamboanga City police to combat illegal drug activities and uphold law and order in the region. The seizure represents one of the larger drug busts in the area recently, highlighting the persistent efforts to curb the flow of illicit substances.
