A devastating fire erupted in a residential area in Sityo Saac 2, Zone 7, Barangay Buaya, Lapu-Lapu City on the morning of Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The blaze resulted in an estimated damage of approximately P1.1 million, affecting multiple households and leaving a significant number of residents homeless.

Timeline of the Fire Response

The Lapu-Lapu Fire District received the alarm at 9:07 AM and promptly responded by declaring a first alarm. Due to the narrow roads and the density of houses constructed from light materials, the situation escalated quickly. Within just 11 minutes, the fire was upgraded to a second alarm to mobilize additional resources.

Thanks to the rapid response from firefighters from the Mactan Station, Maribago, Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), and various fire volunteers, the fire was brought under control by 9:39 AM. It was completely extinguished 10 minutes later, showcasing the efficiency of the emergency teams.

Impact on the Community

According to data from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), the fire impacted around 25 houses. Of these, 20 homes were completely destroyed, while 5 suffered partial damage. The disaster has left 26 families, totaling 115 individuals, without shelter. These affected residents have been temporarily relocated to an evacuation center where they are receiving immediate assistance.

Investigation and Safety

Fire Officer 2 Rowel Brañanola, one of the investigators, confirmed that there were no reported casualties or injuries from the incident. The fire is believed to have originated in the home of Bernadette Inot, but authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the blaze to determine the precise circumstances that led to its outbreak.
